History

Ransomes Jacobsen's long history begins in 1789, when Robert Ransome began his iron foundry with only £ 200. Then, in 1832, Ransomes built the world's first lawn mower, the “Patent Buddings” and a turf care leader was born. Since then, Ransomes and later Ransomes Jacobsen have taken pride in providing high quality turf equipment maintenance services to customers around the world. Jacobsen's Ransomes produced some of the most important innovations, including: • the first steam plow in 1856 • the first gasoline-powered lawn mower in 1902 • the UK's first battery-powered electric truck in 1920 • the first pedestrian green mower in 1923 • the first rotary mower for home use with four reversible cutting blades in 1955 • first tractor-mounted, mechanical, five gang mowers in 1964 • first riding greens mower in 1968 • first self-propelled high-speed drive-on triple mowers in 1974 • the first turf groomer in 1986 • First all-electric three-seater mower in 1994 • First magnetic bedknife in 2004 • First hybrid walking greens mower in 2007 and, • First hybrid riding greens mower in 2009 • First triplex mini mower in 2013 Thanks to its unrivaled understanding of lawn maintenance, equipment from Ransomes jacobsen to this trusted to preserve some of the world's most prestigious and sacred sites such as the Royal Palace, lawns, legendary golf courses, cemeteries, monuments and soccer fields, including the World Cup. As we look to the future of our industry, Ransomes Jacobsen will continue to develop our legendary history through Quality, Innovation and sustainability.
